Good morning,

Palantir might be the most talked-about AI company that nobody can explain.

You may have seen the name all over the stock market lately, and many investors believe it could become one of the most important AI companies in the world. But the funny part is that you can hear about Palantir constantly and still have no idea what it actually does.

Palantir’s a behind-the-scenes software company that helps large organizations make sense of massive amounts of data.

Think about any large organization you deal with: a hospital, shipping company, government agency, or insurance company. These places already have more data than they know what to do with. The problem isn’t that they lack information, it’s that the information is usually scattered across different systems that don’t talk to each other.

That’s where Palantir comes in.

Moda creates AI Decks that don't look AI-Generated

Every AI tool can create "AI slop". You know it the second you see it.

Moda is different: it learns your brand identity and applies it to every slide, document, and marketing asset your team makes. It learns your preferences so the designs get better over time.

The best part? Every layer is fully editable on a real canvas, and exports to powerpoint, PDF and more.

Moda has raised $7.5M from General Catalyst, Pear VC, and the founder of Dropbox.

Imagine you run a large hospital system.

Every day, you are responsible for thousands of decisions.

  • Which nurses should be scheduled?

  • Which departments are getting overwhelmed?

  • Which supplies are running low?

  • Which patients are waiting too long?

A lot of that information already exists somewhere inside the hospital, but it may be spread across ten different systems. One team might have staffing data, another team might have patient records, another team might manage supplies, and another team might handle billing.

Palantir helps bring those pieces together so leaders can see a clearer picture of what’s actually happening.

Instead of guessing or reacting late, a hospital could use Palantir’s software to spot problems earlier. Maybe it notices that one department will be understaffed next week. Maybe it finds that certain supplies are being used faster than expected. Or maybe it helps administrators understand why patients are waiting too long.

That’s the real value of Palantir: better information leading to better decisions, with AI helping in the background.

Most AI builders get you 80% there. Then you're on your own.

Readdy takes you all the way:

  • Hosting, SEO, analytics, and payments built in

$15/month. Everything included.

Here’s another example.

Imagine a shipping company with thousands of trucks moving products across the country. On the surface, that sounds simple. Pick up the product, drive it somewhere, and deliver it on time.

But behind the scenes, it’s a huge puzzle.

Every truck has a route. Every route has traffic. Every driver has hours. Every vehicle has maintenance needs. Every warehouse has inventory. Then you add weather, fuel prices, accidents, delays, and last-minute changes.

Without the right system, managers usually react after problems happen.

Palantir helps companies connect all of that information so they can make decisions before the problem gets worse. If a storm is about to slow down one route, the company may reroute trucks earlier. If a vehicle is showing signs of trouble, it may get repaired before it breaks down. If one warehouse is about to run short on inventory, the company may catch it before customers are affected.

Again, this isn’t the flashy version of AI that gets all the attention online. But it’s the type of AI that can save companies money, reduce waste, and make complicated operations run smoother.

3rd ad:

Speak your constraints, examples, and context into any AI tool. Wispr Flow formats it into clean, structured input — the kind that gets useful answers on the first try. No re-prompting. Start flowing free.

This is why Palantir has become such an interesting company to watch.

A lot of the AI conversation focuses on the models themselves. You hear people talk about ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and whatever new model gets released next. Those tools matter, but AI is only useful if it can work with the right information.

If a company has messy data, disconnected systems, and no clear way to understand what is happening, then adding AI on top of it won’t magically solve the problem.

Palantir’s pitch is that it can help organizations organize their information, understand what’s happening, and make decisions faster. That’s why it’s become popular with governments, large companies, and organizations dealing with complicated operations.

But from a technology standpoint, Palantir is worth understanding because it sits directly in the middle of one of the biggest questions in AI:

How do you turn all this data into better decisions?

Now there’s another side to Palantir that we need to talk about too.

Because Palantir works with governments, military groups, law enforcement, and immigration agencies, some people worry its software could be used for surveillance or unfair decision-making. Supporters argue it helps protect people, reduce fraud, and improve national security.

It’s another big reason Palantir gets so much attention, and next Sunday, we’ll dig into part 2 by looking at the controversy surrounding this company.
